In Partnership with Parkinson’s UK, Xcite West Lothian Leisure has received funding through the Physical Activity Grant. Following consultation with people with Lived Experience of Parkinson’s, we are excited to offer the following activities:
Falls Prevention
The Falls Prevention programmes will focus on strength and balance exercises using an evidence-based Posture Stability Instructor (PSI) model. The programme will consist of one hour sessions incorporating specific exercises designed to improve balance, endurance, strength, and flexibility. All exercises can be adapted to individual needs and physical function.

Stationary Cycling Sessions
Parkinson’s specific stationary cycling sessions will consist of aerobic activity within a safe environment to increase cardiovascular function. This half an hour class will consist of a structured warm-up, short high-intensity intervals, and a prolonged cooldown.

Wellbeing Circuit Sessions
A Parkinson-specific circuit-based programme with an emphasis on strength and power. This 45-minute class will be inclusive of all abilities and physical functions, supporting participants at different stages of their Parkinson’s journey. Exercises will consist of upper and lower body incorporating cardiovascular, strength, and power. The circuit will include 14 different stations with the length of activity increasing and rest decreasing.

Cost: No cost for any session
Length: Each activity is delivered for 12 weeks. We encourage attendance weekly for the duration of the 12 weeks to gain the most health benefits.
To be referred, speak to your Parkinson’s Nurse or Primary Care team within West Lothian (We do accept referrals from outside West Lothian however referral forms need to be completed)
