Xcite Partners with S.M.I.L.E Counselling to Support Young People

We are proud to announce a new partnership with S.M.I.L.E Counselling, a local charity dedicated to improving the lives of young people aged 11-24 in West Lothian. This collaboration marks an exciting new chapter for both organisations, united by a shared commitment to promoting health and well-being among local young people.

S.M.I.L.E Counselling provides vital support for those facing challenges such as family or school difficulties, anxiety, depression, anger, or simply needing someone to talk to when confiding in those closest feels too difficult.

This partnership aligns with several new Xcite initiatives which have been designed to promote positive physical and mental health among young people. These include the ‘Fitness Factory’ gym access programme for 12-15-year-olds, introduced last year, which has already led to a 52% increase in teen gym sessions. Also recently launched are ‘Family Fitness Factory’ classes designed for 8-11-year-olds and their parents, focusing on functional training, strengthening family bonds, and supporting both physical and mental wellbeing.

Lisa Hunter, Xcite Health & Wellbeing Manager, said:

“We’re thrilled to partner with S.M.I.L.E Counselling, whose essential work in supporting young people’s mental health complements our vision of a West Lothian where everyone can live a healthier, happier, and longer life. We hope this partnership marks the start of a holistic approach to health that empowers local young people and their families to thrive. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this collaboration will have on our community.”

Declan Harrigan, CEO of S.M.I.L.E. Counselling, added:

“We’re delighted to partner with Xcite West Lothian Leisure to support young people in West Lothian. As two well-recognised charities and experts in our respective fields, we are confident this collaboration will not only empower young people and their families but also strengthen both of our services. Mental and physical well-being go hand in hand, and together, we can deliver a holistic approach that strengthens our community and creates a lasting positive impact.”
